Right wingers hate Fred Phelps too

Mon Jun 27, 2005 at 03:45:08 PM PDT

I found out about Fred Phelps latest sicko campaign from right-wing Newsmax.

http://news.bostonherald.com/localRegional/view.bg?articleid=90258

Phelps is now targeting soldiers funerals and saying they deserved to die, since we have brought on the wrath of God by endorsing homosexuality and whatever else.

So i think we can agree, MOST human beings find Phelps and his gang to be reprehensible people. Phelps does not embody the Christian right, most of whom have no use for him or his politics. Too many liberals i think would like to conflate Phelps with Christians or Republicans in general (just like they think we are all pat robertson lovers). Let's not make that mistake. You can oppose gay marriage but still think Phelps is an asshole of the highest order, as NewsMax clearly does.

  •  Well, Phelps... (4.00 / 2)

thinks that Ronald Reagan is going to Hell.  And he's a registered Democrat and has run for office as a Democrat.  So Repubs have good reason to dislike him.  Visit his website and you'll see there are plenty of reasons he is universally despised.

Gimme a break - between Phelps and Newsmax it's only a matter of a few degrees - a lover's spat.

All it proves is that you can hate Phelps an
    nd still be a bigot.

signs like these outside the funeral of a dead soldier?
  •  Sick bastards, (none / 1)

the whole family. I have never heard anyone defend the sickos/

Talk Radio is a twitter about Billy Grahm and the Clintons. I should have known Grahm was a Dem, he actually preaches unity.

Oh sure, Wingers SAY all the right things about how sick Phelps is--but they NEVER miss a chance to make sure it's understood that he's a registered Dem... and the really audacious ones try to suggest that means his message is representative of Dem values.

    Ask yourself.

If there was a liberal Fred Phelps with a name of say... Ward Churchill

Would the Republicans think it was irresponsible to use his name as a way of condemning all Liberals?

I think we already have the answer to that question.

  •  Phelps real game... (none / 0)

is provoking false arrests, so he can sue oiver them. i guess it's getting harder to find cops who'll arrest him on anti-gay  provocation, so he's branching out.

This is a test of the Emergency Free Speech System.
    This is only a test.
If this had been an actual emergency, I'd already be locked up.
